About the role

Reporting to the People & Culture Service Centre Manager the Senior Payroll Officer is responsible for the delivery of professional, accurate and customer focused payroll services within required timeframes. Providing practical support to a team of experienced and fun Payroll Officers, this role is responsible for meeting all payroll compliance requirements and are expected to have a strong knowledge of the laws and regulations regarding employment conditions.

A typical day in the role may look like;

  • Timely and accurate coordination of end-to-end payroll activities;
  • Ensure payroll processes are appropriately documented ensuring accuracy, compliance and interpretation with awards, legislation, policies, and organisational requirements;
  • Providing practical advice and coaching to the payroll team with respect to payroll processes and compliance;
  • Coordination of Activ’s salary packaging programs and superannuation compliance;
  • Utilise payroll expertise to analyse, problem-solve and test solutions to resolve payroll issues and specific queries;
  • Manage all statutory and ATO deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have:-

  • Effective & engaging communication style with a collaborative approach; 
  • Experience successfully coordinating end-to-end Payroll processes for a large organisation (1500+);
  • Previous experience in the use of both manual and automated processes;
  • Previous experience leading a small team of professions (desirable);
  • Experience working on payroll projects, streamlining processes and system implementation would be beneficial.
